I apologize for my absence over the past few weeks. I took a job working on the wardrobe department of a small film and have spent the last few weeks shopping and hitting up my favorite local shops and designers to help create personal style for people who don’t even exist-film characters.
I’m about to run to set, but I did have a few discoveries worth sharing. As I may have mentioned, I’ve been doing a TON of shopping these weeks.
Of course, we got the basics at Target. But when we needed some seriously interesting wardrobe options with character, I id what I’d do for myself: I hit up SMASH, Vitae, and Dorthea’s closet. And they did not let me down. Thanks to these kick ass local stores and the designers who run them I was able to clothe our actors in something unique. I wanna give most love to Seth at SMASH who literally let us borrow the shirt of of his back. Not only was watching him remove the shirt a nice little show, it also looked great on camera. And also, the girls at D.C. and Vitae for letting us use their goods. This (great clothes made by supportive people and Seth shirtless) is why I love this city. Check these stores out. You’ll look better for it.
Or so we’re supposed to believe according to autotune the news. They take political commentary/shows and autotune them into songs.
The third autotune the news video has recently been released, and between Dick Cheney’s awkward silence and Hilary being serenaded by the leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan who apparently want to play Donkey Kong with her, it’s absolute brilliance:

Spring Hootenanny
The Spring Hootenanny will be held on THIS Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Des Moines Social Club (1428 Locust St, downtown Des Moines) and will feature performances by Brother Trucker, $trick9 & The Truth and Asparagrass. There will also be a Farmer’s Daughter contest, a Winner-Take-All Beard Growing Contest and a Tall Tales Stage in the lounge. Western wear is encouraged. Music starts at 9 pm and tickets are just $5 at the door.
But, that’s not all. Check out the dueling drummers in $trick9′s lineup. That’s right! Des Moines best hip-hop jam band just got a lot funkier. And you didn’t think we could do it! WE DID IT!
So, come on out and have a raucous good time. Grab your Stetson cowboy hat, your best guy/gal and head down to the Des Moines Social Club.
Remember to share, so pass this along to anyone you think fit the Cowboy way!

WTF am I doing finding a job?
I got a -84% typing rating today. That’s right, – 84%. I don’t know exactly what that means, but I know it’s bad. Bad enough that the temp staffing lady looked at me and said, “you have to go back and retake this.” In my defense, it’s difficult to score well when you’re given the wrong thing to type. When I had a paragraph and not an data entry form in front of me, I scored well within the employable rate. Continue reading ‘WTF am I doing going to a staffing office?’
Okay…I’ve been in town a month, and just want to do a general update on WTF I’m doing moving back to Des Moines. I have to do this fast and furious because I’ve started like 12 posts, and written pages and pages of stuff you all don’t want or need to read. So this is the short version, and I hope it might be helpful/insightful for someone. I will say, there isn’t a story or any of my normal fun side-tracks. This is a state of the union address about moving home. I just want to warn you, in case you don’t give a shit about my union, in which case, go read something else.
