When we last left the story, I had unsuccessfully gone in search of a police auction of bicycles. Dejected and discouraged, I returned home and occupied myself with other things, like job applications, jewelry making, and watching Law & Order on cable. Poor ol’ Jimmy. He’d been waiting for them $trick9 boys to come ’round again and play their music. In fact, he’d been waiting a long time.
1. Listen to KFMG 99.1 FM this Sunday afternoon between 2 – 4 pm to catch an acoustic set by $trick9 & The Truth. Our pal Jeff (from the Baberhood) hosts. It’ll be killer. Big Joe McGuire will be pounding a mean conga. Botics on beats and strings. Duke on acoustic bass. Matty J on melodies. $trick9 sticks to words spoken quickly and rhythmically.
2. Spring Dandy is Sunday, May 3, 2009. It’s a ride from Union Park up to Cottonwood and back. Then, we will grill something tasty. Ride leaves Union Park around 10:30 am. Bicycles are strongly encouraged. I will most likely not reply to anyone who asks if they can roller skate it. Its free. All you have to do is bring a smile.
I bought a bike. Then my dad bought a bike. Now he’s in the driveway, morphing the two bikes into one big best of bike. I keep imagining it is going to be like a Transformer. I’ll go out; it will look like a bike, and then, through an elaborate series of twists and turns, it will become a giant mechanical creature bent on destroying the Earth, or fighting crime, or whatever the hell the Transformers did. I didn’t ask my dad to morph the bikes. In fact, I’m still not sure why he bought the other bike at all, but it happened and maybe by the end of the day I’ll have a crime-fighting, Earth-destroying mode of transportation.
this week: local artist/scholar/musician brent houzenga kicks it with us in master control. duke has an announcement about the spring dandy. and nine drops a hot 16.
