I had a great time interviewing my great buddy, performing artist and fashion designer Serana Rose for my first ever lesson on “Stage Style.”

If you happen to google “Serana Rose” or “Electric Acid Theater” you’ll find one of the most extreme acts to ever hit any stage. Anywhere. From self electrocution to sword swallowing, Serana and her partner, world famous “The Enigma” have been shocking and scandalizing audiences across the globe with their act that is part “Ripley’s Believe it or Not” and part “Bill Nye the Science Guy.” But what sets Serana apart from other wanna be sideshow sirens begins with her sense of style. Even sporting a huge mane of ever changing dreadlocks (upkept with help of Sonja at Studio X in Ames, IA) Serana manages to perform deadly and sometimes horrific stunts with a mixture of playfulness and wide eyed enthusiasm that makes her look more like a slightly disturbing baby doll than the daredevil, savvy force behind the “Electric Acid Theater”
Serana and I have worked together on many occasions. Her ability to pull you into her world is one of the greatest gifts any artist can posess-and she takes it even further. Once inside her world, this woman makes damn sure you look the part. So with her talented team of BFF/collaborators she creates not only clothing, or photos to advertise that clothing…she conjures new worlds that we, as her team, have the privilege of inhabiting with her-if only while the spotlight is on.

Friday at VEISHEA in Ames you can see those clothes put to the ultimate test in a show that never fails to bring gasps, laughter, and shrieks from fans and gawkers across the globe.
