Phase Two Talks Fashion

“Aftershow” is a fun new way to see totally informal, unscripted discussion with entertainers in their element. We’ll be backstage after shows, in the green room before appearances, or hanging out during breaks in filming. I’ve decided that these chats can be a cool new way to gain insight into different people’s perception of fashion. Performers’ jobs give them the unique opportunity to travel the globe-and their personal style tends to reflect that exposure.

An integral part of “Aftershow” is, of course, the food! We’ll be teaming up with dining establishments to bring great tasting food right to the entertainers and enjoying dinner and discussion. At the moment we’re working to establish a relationship with the Pancheros Mexican franchise-more on that to come!

I really lucked out when putting together the very first “Aftershow” episode! Phase Two (see bio below) is a local artist who has had the rare opportunity to travel the world traveling with high profile bands. He’s been associated with everyone from Disney’s Cheetah Girls and Miley Cyrus to Slipknot’s alum D.J. Starscream.

The early nineties was The beginning of Phase Two. The name adapted from old graffiti writing found in Des Moines, Iowa. Though he had few musical influences growing up in a small town they were extremely influential to the development of his musical style. Bar bands, DJ’s, artist’s, and a flourishing underground nightlife community. Starting as a DJ for art exhibits and weeknight bar crowds he carefully developed his style for ear pleasing music. By ‘96 he had slid into his house music groove and started to be recognized. Gigs became larger and then scratching became the main focus of the sets. The Sound Proof Coalition was founded and the gigs turned into turntable hijackings all over the Midwest. SPC knew how to turn a party into a historical memory for a few thousand kids at a time. With 6 DJ’s in SPC it was a relentless barrage of beats and scratches for up to 10 straight hours. After a few years of branching out the members of SPC began exploring all aspects of media. Phase Two was now a full time DJ playing numerous raves and parties as well as scratching with local bands and recording studio stints. Since 2003 the production of a debut album has been the main focus of the artist. A collaboration of all types of musical styles and instruments, analog and digital, its a fusion of funk, scratch and live sequencing. Presently on tour as a backline technician Phase Two has dominated clubs all over the world with the polished scratching and stage presence. Most recently playing in Osaka, Tokyo, and Nagoya, Japan as well as Sydney and Melbourne Australia. Look for the announcement of the debut album on the home page in early 2006.

But when I approached him about talking with me, what I got was a far cry from the arrogant, cocky world traveler I thought I might be speaking to. Instead, I found myself sitting down with a man who seemed just like your average Iowa guy. He was funny, pleasant, down to earth and very, very cool.

Though I’m sure that he gets interviewed all the time-and probably paid mucho dinero to do it-he graciously responded to my questions in a laid back, but self assured manner that put me right at ease. When the cameras stopped rolling he also indulged me-and my passion for fashion-by taking extra time to chit chat with me about where a guy who can shop anywhere in the world chooses to pick up wardrobe essentials-and what he splurges on. I was also pleased to see that he tended to agre with me on the cornerstones of style=what to save and what to splurge on.

I had a great time talking to this very talented man. He’s a pioneer in his field and I’ve got no doubt  that with his talent, various skills, easy going, laid back personality, Phase Two will be the man behind the music for years to come. I’m honored to have gotten a piece of his time on my first “Aftershow!!”

So, without further ado: Phase Two
